Many of our guests stay a little south in Playa Carrillo, or north in Nosara, and come to us for a day of fishing. If that is your plan, here is what you need to know.

Where the trips start
All our boat trips leave from Sámara beach. We meet at the far end of the beach, on the road toward Hotel Hideaway, and the crew confirms the exact place and parking before your trip. Playa Carrillo is a short drive away. From Nosara, plan for a longer drive. Morning trips leave at 07:30, so plan the drive the night before, and ask us about getting to the beach when you book.
Big game fishing near Nosara and Sámara
For marlin and sailfish, you go offshore on Sol de Oro, 14 to 25 miles off Sámara to the drop-offs. We troll for sailfish, marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo, for 4.5, six or eight hours. To be clear, we fish out of Sámara and don't run trips from Nosara. If you are staying in Nosara, you come to Sámara beach to meet the boat.
Playa Carrillo from the shore
Carrillo is part of our home water. Our shore fishing trip is a four-hour guided walk between rocks, beaches and river mouths around Sámara and Carrillo, timed with the tide. We fish with poppers, live bait or fly for roosterfish and jacks. Some fishing experience is required, gear is not included, and we agree the meeting point with you, so it may be closer to where you are staying.
Inshore, close to the coast
If you want a boat but not the long run offshore, choose inshore fishing. We work the rocks, beaches and river mouths for roosterfish, jacks, cubera snapper, grouper, mackerel and amberjack, for four, six or eight hours on either boat. Beginners are welcome.
Your boat, your group only
Every boat trip is private. Sol de Oro takes up to six guests and Acuarelas up to five, and children count as guests. That matters if you are a family or a group of friends staying together in Carrillo or Nosara: you fish with your own people, at your own pace. There is no toilet on either boat, so plan for it before you leave the beach.
